Statement for the Senate Judiciary Committee on "The Long-Term Impact of Immigration: Exploring Reforms to our Nation's Guest Worker Programs and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, and Their Potential Impact on the Economy and Local Communities"

The American Immigration Council submitted a written statement for the Senate Judiciary Committee on "The Long-Term Impact of Immigration: Exploring Reforms to our Nation's Guest Worker Programs and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, and Their Potential Impact on the American Economy and Local Communities." The statement addresses the impact of the President's decision to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), as well as shares our analysis and research on how immigrants play a vital role in our nation's economy. The termination of DACA will place nearly 800,000 "Dreamers" in legal limbo. Since the Obama administration announced that it would offer "Deferred Action" to immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children and meet other specific requirements, they have been able to live, work, and participate in society without fear of deportation from the U.S.
