The American Immigration Council is hosting our annual Immigration Impact Awards on June 14th at the Marriott Marquis, Chicago. Together, we will celebrate the Council's impactful history, steadfast dedication, and exciting future of shaping a more welcome country for immigrants. We can’t wait to come together with our partners to recognize incredible leaders for their decades of contributions to our work, listen to inspiring artists sharing their lived experience, and look towards the future that we are building together.

Honorees

Eréndira (Ere) Rendón

Immigrant Impact Honoree

Ere, a DACAmented immigrant from Oaxaca, Mexico, has dedicated her entire career to advancing justice for immigrants. For more than a decade, she as served as the Vice President of Immigrant Justice at The Resurrection Project (TRP) where she created TRP’s Immigrant Justice Department and serves as the organization’s lead strategist on campaigns impacting the lives of immigrants. 

Ere has played a leading role in the creation and successful passage of pro-immigrant legislation and programs in Illinois, including driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants, healthcare for undocumented seniors and adults, the Chicago Legal Protection Fund, the Immigration Division of the Cook County Public Defender's Office, and Illinois Access to Justice (A2J), a now $25 million line item for legal services.

Ere’s work and personal story have been featured in The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and Crain’s Chicago Business, among many other publications. Ere is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, an alumna of the Civic Leadership Academy at the University of Chicago, and a Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow.

Paul Zulkie

Founders Award Honoree

Paul is the Founder and Managing Principal of Zulkie Partners LLC. With over 40 years of immigration law experience, Paul has become a leader of the profession. From 2004 to 2005, Paul served as the President of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, a national bar association comprised of 15,000 lawyers and law professors dedicated to immigration and nationality law, which is headquartered in Washington DC. From 2005 to 2020, Paul served as the President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Immigration Council, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to increasing public understanding of immigration law and policy.  

Paul has testified before the US Congress on immigration issues and his expertise has been called upon by several leading news organizations. Paul has appeared on the CBS Evening News, CNN, MSNBC, and NPR and has been interviewed by several national media publications, including The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Business Week, and the Chicago Tribune.
